Public submits nearly 300,000 comments on the Proposed Rule

The 90-day comment period on the proposed rule and draft environmental impact statement closed on May 16, 2011. Comments were received from a wide range of individuals, groups, and organizations, as well as state, county, Tribal, and federal governments. The Forest Service is currently reviewing and analyzing these comments to help develop the final rule and final environmental impact statement. Publication of the final rule is anticipated in late 2011.

  1. 300,000 comments shows that there is a lot of public interest. What comes next?

  2. I think that it is a very good thing that public will be participating in the planning process. Our forests, as well as all of our outdoor natural settings, play an important part in our emotional and physical health. We should have a say in how we care for them and protect them.
